The white ties let's you tighten if to big and loosen if to small. The pockets are slanted not straight up and down. I love the little decoration on the pockets. Light material. I had a shirt on under it. If it's barely chilly, this might help. I believe you can wear this as a shirt by itself or as a dress up over another shirt for a little added warmth. I believe this is a Gothic item, but I like it as a dressy item. I'll wear it to church because it's dressy not so Gothic to me also with jeans to dress them up. Nice for church, going out to a nice restaurant, or anywhere that is dressy or just because you want to. I don't need to take in the sides any to give me that curve effect. The white strings will do that for me. I am 5 foot 2 inches at a 160 lbs and my stomach sticks out more than I like. If I lose more weight, I will just tighten up the strings to make it fit.
